All aboard the Reds Express

Enjoy a day out on the South Coast Wine Train’s “Reds Express” wine tour travelling to the vineyards and wineries of Langhorne Creek aboard the historic and much loved “Red Hen” Railcar.

You can select your tour to begin from the city of Adelaide and travel by coach to the Adelaide Hills and meet the “Reds Express” wine tour train at the Mount Barker Railway Station or simply start your tour at Mount Barker.

 
Board the “Reds Express” wine tour train and travel past new hills residential developments and escape into the fields of local produce, rolling hills and rich farming land, all whilst being surrounded by the majestic eucalyptus trees of the region.

Enjoy distant glimpses of the eastern plains and Murraylands extending from the Southern Mount Lofty Ranges toward the Coorong and South Coast, as the train slowly descends the Adelaide Hills escapement to arrive at the historic township of Strathalbyn.

 
Meet your luxury tour coach for a town tour of Strathalbyn before travelling the short distance to the vineyards of Langhorne Creek. Arrive at your first winery for the day and be guided through a tasting of local red and white wines in an informal, relaxed approach with our wine host and the friendly cellar door staff.

After your first tasting for the day, visit a local restaurant surrounded by the region’s vineyards for a delicious 2 course lunch. 

 
Following lunch, continue your wine tasting encounters at the next cellar door for the day where you start to experience more of the creativity and community pride that the locals have for their “hidden gem” of Australian wine regions.

During your final tasting and cellar door visit, you can learn more about the region’s vineyards and what makes their wines so highly regarded and sought after or just sit back and relax in the warmth of the local’s hospitality as your cellar door host guides you through your last tasting for the day.

Reboard the “Reds Express” tour train at Strathalbyn and sit back in a piece of railway history as the Redhen railcar starts a rhythm over the rails and climbs into the Mount Lofty Ranges and Adelaide Hills to arrive back at Mount Barker.

For those guests who have started their day in Adelaide, your coach will be waiting at Mount Barker to shuttle you back to the city of Adelaide and to your original pickup point or hotel.

You will arrive in Adelaide at approximately 6.00 pm and back to your city hotel.
