Adelaide Hills & McLaren Vale Day Tour
Depart Adelaide from your city hotel and travel into the Adelaide Hills through the eastern suburbs and Greenhill Road. Enjoy the views of Adelaide as we climb the escarpment towards Mount Lofty. Cut through the quaint villages of Crafers and Stirling to arrive at our first winery of Deviation Road Wines.
This winery is in the hands of Hamish and Kate Laurie who both come from a long line of winemakers and tradition. This tradition has now presented them both the opportunity to make some of the region’s best sparkling and table wines.
We continue through the picturesque Hills region past farmland and stables, pine forests and gums to open up to the township of Meadows. We stop here for an opportunity to purchase some morning tea at the local Meadows Bakery and Teahouse.
A short drive past Meadows in the Kuitpo pine forest region we are mesmerised as we enter the driveway of the K1 winery by Geoff Hardy. We continue down the long driveway to be met by a stunning cellar door overlooking a private lake. Enjoy the relaxing surrounds as we taste some of Geoff’s award winning wines at what was awarded by Winestate Magazine - The Australian Winery of Year in 2012 and 2014.
Start to enjoy the views of the coast and the vineyards as we drop down into the McLaren Vale wine region. Learn the lay of the land, the history of the coastline and hear the tales of some of the local families that have helped make McLaren Vale such a iconic and popular wine region.
Enjoy a 2 course lunch at Red Poles restaurant and art gallery.
After lunch enjoy winetasting at Angove Family Winemakers. Angove go back 5 generations when Dr William Thomas Angove arrived in Adelaide in 1886 and started making wine as tonic for his patients within his local practice. These days Angove has developed to become one of Australia’s largest privately owned wine companies.
Throughout the course of the day enjoy visiting another 2 wineries within the regions visited. These wineries may vary from day to day but may include 2 of the following - Wirra Wirra, Chapel Hill, Battle of Bosworth, Coriole, Penny’s Hill, Lazy Ballerina, Top Note, Woodstock, just to name a few. Enjoy a tasting of 4 to 8 wines at each of the cellar doors visited.
One of our last stops on our tour is in main street of McLaren Vale where we can visit Robern Menz Chocolates, The Almond Train or grab a final wine taste at the cellar door of Hardys Tintara Winery.
Continue back into Adelaide via the scenic Port Willunga and Southern Adelaide coastline taking in the views of the St Vincent’s Gulf and many of Adelaide’s popular beaches.
